a unique place rich in agricultural heritage, tales of ladies and heroes, folklore, and precious natural resources
Research and Tradition,
Our prized barley has its roots in a history that stretches back centuries.
It was in Gualdo Tadino, near Rocca Flea, that Emperor Frederick II happened to pass through around 1242—during the years of opposition to the papacy—and found the loyal Ghibelline town of Gualdo in ruins following the terrible fire that had destroyed its previous settlement.
Moved by the plight of his allied city, the sovereign wished to demonstrate his generosity by endowing it with defensive walls and restoring the Rocca, laying the first stone with his own hands. Furthermore, “riding around the territory, he sowed with his own hands wheat, barley, spelt, fava beans, millet, and other crops, asking Almighty God to make the town grow and multiply its population, and to deign to ensure them food, every good, and security as an eternal commitment.” (Chronicon)
Flea Beer is born from the renowned mineral springs of Gualdo Tadino, from seeds sown centuries ago by Emperor Frederick II.
And so, inspired by Matteo and Maria Cristina’s passion for the fantastical tales of heroes, damsels, and witches that are told in Umbria, the names of our Italian craft beers were born:
Anais, Adelaide, Bastola, Bianca Lancia, Costanza, Federico II, Federico II Extra, Jolanda, Isabella, Margherita, and Violante.
Water, Air, Barley.
Artisanal Craftsmanship
