The most unusual and daring pairings are often the ones that bring the most joy… Chocolate has always been paired with wine or rum, but did you know that it goes surprisingly well with beer?

You just need to find the right balance! ?

Every year at Easter, we receive endless amounts of chocolate that inevitably goes to waste. But what if we told you that you could enjoy it alongside a fresh glass of Flea craft beer? That’s right! The slight bitter aftertaste of both the chocolate and the beer seems to be the common thread in a pairing that’s as unexpected as it is extraordinary!

When pairing chocolate with beer, you should take into account the intensity and cocoa content of the chocolate. The more bitter varieties—those with a higher cocoa content—should be balanced with fairly sweet, high-alcohol beers, though they can also pair surprisingly well with a decidedly bitter IPA. The key? EXPERIMENT!

Below, we’d like to share our pairing ideas and suggestions with you: you won’t waste a single bit of this year’s Easter eggs! All you need to do is chill your favorite Flea Beer in the fridge ?

White chocolate is notoriously the sweetest type of chocolate there is, with a very low cocoa content, making it the hardest to pair. Because of its high sugar content, it’s best paired with a full-bodied beer that’s just as sweet, with a caramel aftertaste: our Violante Belgian Strong Ale is the perfect match!

Milk chocolate tends to be sweet, smooth, and rounded due to its high milk content. We’ve come up with a bold pairing that plays on contrasts: our Adelaide-APA is ideal for cleansing the palate of the chocolate’s sweet, cloying flavor. With its effervescence, floral aromatic notes, and hoppy aftertaste, it makes the perfect pairing!

Dark chocolate—with a high cocoa content—is perfect paired with a full-bodied, complex beer like our Bastola – Imperial Red Ale: the malt’s toasty notes and nutty aftertaste will pair perfectly with the chocolate’s bitter flavor!

We hope these tips will help you make the most of all that Easter chocolate! Of course, these are just suggestions— nothing set in stone: the goal is to have fun experimenting with the chocolate you have at home, while enjoying a good old pint of craft beer ?
