In the adult world, when there’s a special occasion to celebrate, people often crack open a good bottle of craft beer. Flea was created precisely for this reason: to share moments filled with smiles and happiness. But how do children see all this? To answer this question, thanks to the insight of Monica Bozzi, an art history teacher at the “Franco Storelli” Middle School, and Maria Cristina Cocchi, as owners of the Flea brewery, we launched a contest. But not to highlight the alcoholic beverage itself. As you know, we at the Flea Universe love creativity, inventiveness, and originality. In a nutshell:“FleaArt Beer: Bubbles of Imagination”! So we asked the students of the “Franco Storelli” Middle School in Gualdo Tadino to hand-draw the Flea beer label. The results were simply extraordinary!
As with any respectable competition, Birra FleArt also needed a jury. The jury members included Maria Cristina Cocchi (research and development at Birra Flea), Giovanni Biscontini (graphic designer at Birra Flea), Monica Bozzi (art history teacher at the “Franco Storelli” Middle School), Barbara Bucari (Gualdo Tadino councilor for education, tourism, welfare, and culture), Caterina Calabresi (art history teacher at the “Raffaele Casimiri” High School and head of the art lab and department coordinator), and Fabrizio Bisciaio (Principal of the Gualdo Tadino Comprehensive School).
After admiring more than 150 works of art, both large and small, we compiled a top ten list.
Samuele, Alice, and Giacomo; Greta, Ludovica, and Gioiele—students from all grades at the school—placed between tenth and fourth, winning a kit containing all the necessary art supplies, courtesy of Birra Flea.
Chiara came in third and received a €50 gift certificate to use at participating businesses in Gualdo Tadino. Desideria, who came in second, won the same gift certificate, but worth €100.
And the winner? Or rather, the winners? That’s right, because there were two wonderful designs that both deserved to win, so we awarded prizes to both Martina Valentini and Paolo Guidubaldi. The two winners each received a €150 gift card, and their two designs will be used for two collectible labels: 250 bottles of Birra Flea Blanche and the same number for Birra Ma.Ma IPA. They will be on sale starting Tuesday, March 23, 2021,on our e-commerce siteand at the Birra Flea distribution center onVia Madre Teresa di Calcutta SNC, right near the train station. To pick them up, you can also message us onWhatsAppat 0759108159 and then come by the distribution center to collect them.
Each bottle of this exclusive limited edition will cost 8 euros. An original and unconventional Easter gift.Proceeds from the sale will go to the “Franco Storelli” Middle School. An alternative and meaningful way to support a local school during this particularly difficult time.
There are also some special mentions: one goes to Sara from the second grade, whocombined the art of drawing with that of poetry, creating a beautiful rhyme on her label. The other goes to Marko, who, through the use of a mixed-media technique, gave his worka remarkable artistic depth.
We are thoroughly pleased with the outstanding success of this project. Not only have we managed to highlight the wonders of art history, but we’ve also given the students a chance to express their own ideas about a world that is unfamiliar to them. All of this was done without graphic design software, but by hand, bringing out their creativity. In doing so, the students rediscovered the beauty of creatinghandmade worksthat will go directly to market, just as Birra Flea has been doing for several years.
A love for our local area and our ingredients, without compromising the personality and character that lie behind every single product. This is the philosophy of Birra Flea, which we hope we’ve conveyed to the young people who had the pleasure of participating.
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much!”
Thank you so much!
